What is Christian Science?

Christian Science is a practical, Bible-based religion which was discovered and founded by Mary Baker Eddy during the late 19th Century.  She wrote our textbook “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” which explains the inspired word of the Bible and how its understanding can be applied to all practical aspects of life.

The web site christianscience.com provides far more detailed information than we can provide here, and we thoroughly recommend its perusal to all who are interested in learning more about Christian Science.

Our Founder – Mary Baker Eddy – was a remarkable lady, and you will find something about her life and works here.

In addition to our textbook, she also wrote the book “The Manual of The Mother Church”.  It was in this book that she set out the practical steps for the Christian Science Church, including the establishment of Branches in the form of Branch Churches and Societies – one of which is the Sevenoaks Christian Science Society.

You can read both these books – and many others – online at christianscience.com, or you can obtain hard copies by coming to one of our services or meetings.

She also founded several publications which include the widely-respected Christian Science Monitor – a daily newspaper, the Christian Science Sentinel – a weekly magazine, the Christian Science Journal – a monthly publication which lists all Christian Science facilities, worldwide and the Herald of Christian Science – a monthly magazine produced in several languages.  You can find out about these publications at http://jsh.christianscience.com/
